The scripture for today's reading is Genesis 1:16 -
And God made the two great lights--the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night--and the stars. The author is this devotion used a story of his children walking towards the son "we're going to get you the sun daddy" and tied it to this verse, reminding us of the life-giving nature of the sun. How without the sun, all life on earth would die. He then tied this to Jesus Christ, and how Christ is the light of the world. Jesus is the only light that brings hope to the darkness in this world.
Though this was a very simple devotion, I did like how he applied it. We need to find ways to bring this light to the people around us. We need to be able to share it. He closed with this prayer
Come, Lord Jesus. Come to us when we are lost and alone in our times of darkness. Come to us like the sun in the morning gives us life and light. Help us to look forward to your coming this Christmas as the coming of the light of our life. Amen. This is what advent is all about, seeing the different reasons we can be glad that Christ was sent to earth for us.
Jesus is the light of the world! Let us celebrate this!
