1. This author loves the very animals she writes the most about. Particularly in the series that this book is from.

4. Christian fiction author. He writes books for adults as well as children.
5. Military adventures abound! Has some 20 books to his credit. Can't say I like them all, but I do, for some reason, like his writing style. :)

What was I doing 10 years ago?
Working a night job. Growing in my faith as I attended a church completely different than what I grew up in.

1. I have never met anyone famous, not even once...at least not that I knew (would I even know...that would be the question).
2. I am 5'10" tall, really...even if my family members seem taller at times (they are mostly 5'10" as well).
3. I have no stylist. I get my haircut only when I've cut my bangs at least twice and the rest is just starting to make me wake up feeling angry.
4. I used to get really odd dreams if I got overtired. Bears chasing me and I could never just get away from them. used to leave me in tears many a night.
5. I being outside...even just having a picnic lunch, or walking to a park, gardening, watching bunnies binking, and so forth.

Christmas Meme

Hot Chocolate.

anything really, I like meat. Though a pork tenderloin is nice too. :)

3. Do you get a fake or real-you-cut-it-yourself Christmas tree?

Always, always a real cut it yourself tree. It's fun! Oh...we do have a little fake one upstairs though.

4. Decorations on the outside of your house?

Yes...Jim did a lovely job this year. Different than what we have ever done before. People commented on how nice they were. :)

5. Snowball fights or sleddin'?

BOTH!!!!!!!!!!!

7. Do you enjoy going downtown shopping?

Window shopping yes, with Jim and Justin. Shopping, shopping? NO.

really couldn't say. easier to say which aren't but that's not the question

Ah.... like frosty the snowman or the little drummer boy? I KNOW i know like those :)
or real MOVIES? haven't watched that many. A good movie is a good movie regardless the theme.

11. When is it too early to start listening to Christmas music?

Never. Well unless you are married to my hubby who thinks anytime than December is just somehow wrong. :)

Stockings? we don't do stockings. :)

13. Carolers, do you or do you not watch and listen to them?

Have participated, have never been caroled too. Would be fun. I tend not to listen in stores because I don't like shopping and it takes up too much time.

Both. :)

15. Do you read the Christmas Story? If so when?

Yes. Supper time here. Just before gift exchange with my extended family.

16. What do you do after presents and dinner?

Relax.

Peppernut cookies baking. :)

Ice skating if it's in a rink. I'm not that good and really don't want to fall with my bad back.

Christmas Eve with my personal family. Any day with extended.

Not sure.... perhaps the Christmas that I got the CKC book of Dogs. Still remember that as clear as a bell. Felt like I was really heard that year. :) Still have the book too!

I love winter. Winter is fun. Especially now with a toddler! :)

my worst post - My hubbie tends to think that my worst posts are the one that are sappy email posts. So... here's me picking one of them at random (actually it's the one he's complained about most recently). :) $20.

my best post - Ah...now that's a hard one...but if I have to chose, it would be this one, My Girlie Rocks!

post on which I have changed my mind - don't really think there is one. I mostly blog on my devotions or my family, I add some of the emails that I get, but other than that, I don't tend to do a lot of extras. If I change my mind on something I read in the bible I call that growing more in knowledge and needing to refine my position as opposed to "changing my mind" so much.

1. worst weather
- severe rain and hail storm, on family farm, probably 19 years old. Caused a lot of damage around the place. Torn doors off the driving shed. What I remember most is it rained on my box of felt board pieces and I had to toss them out.

2. Scariest encounter with wildlife
- 645 in the morning. Walking the dogs along the train tracks in town, being stalked by a BIG skunk. Not fun when you have two dogs pulling backwards because they want to "say hi". Stupid dogs, BIG skunk who looked like he meant business.

3. Favourite story in Scripture...
- hmm... daniel in the lions den? Downfall of Jericho? Clearing the temple and then healing people right after? Jesus' resurrection? All these qualify.

4. Bait my own hook
-- yes for sure. Not a problem. Regular old worms work for me. That's what I grew up with. Jim has introduced me to lures and fake bait. That works too. But I tend to first think...worms! :) Just think, in another year or so I can introduce Justin to the world of fishing too! :) Right now it doesn't work as ALL he wants to do is GET INTO THE DEEP water (which mama says no to)

5. Favourite musical genre
- I like country, oldtime gospel and country, some pop music, big band,

So Dana , at principled discovery tagged me with this meme.

The rules are simple…Each player lists 8 facts/habits about themselves. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning before those facts/habits are listed. I have to admit, I did like how Dana did her. Made me smile. :)

Anyways, 8 facts about me.

1. Jesus, God, the Holy Spirit. Part of my life, today, tomorrow and forever. My relationship with God gives meaning to substance to my life. I'm not the world's best example of a Christian, I fail frequently despite my best endeavors, which reminds me daily that God is the one who makes all things possible.

2. I LIKE critters... almost all critters of all shapes and sizes and models. That doesn't mean I like all types of critters in my house. I.e. NO SPIDERS in my house. Nope, not even one. Gives me the heebie-jeebies. I will not voluntarily raise reptiles, snakes, spiders, or any of those creepy crawlies. Yes, I can admire them, just don't want them in my house. Then again, I also love mice, rats, ferrets, rabbits and such like. Don't particularly want them in my house either. THEY STINK! Well..okay, they probably wouldn't stink to badly if I cleaned out and washed their cages daily, but I'm not that dedicated. So I'll raise mice and rabbits outside in the summer, but that's about it. Guinea pigs on the other hand, and fish... those I"ll do in the house. And I have a cat and 2 dogs. Life is good. :)

3. books books and more books. would life be complete without books? nope, not! I need my books. I'm thrilled that at this point in his life my boyo likes books too! :)

4. my boyo has his second birthday this Friday (hey, that's tomorrow). I'm making him a cake, his gramma will ice it. My larger family is coming too. Should be fun.

5. grew up on a farm. Given my druthers I'd be on a farm again. I'd have a small mixed farm. I'd raise rabbits and chickens. I'd have barn cats and one house cat. I'd do pet care. I'd have a big garden and sell the excess. Ah... would be good, but God hasn't called me to that lifestyle at this point in my life.

6. Oh.. can't forget gardening. Just love gardening. Seeing things grow and change right before my eyes. It's fun, it's physical and yes...it's dirty too. And yes... I don't mind dirt. :)

7. ARGH... I need two more random things? ARGH... can't do it. Granted, doesn't help that just before doing this I read Dana's entry and the 8 points being important in Buddhism just kinda sets me off wanting to do 8 points so... um... anyways, moving on.

8. not sure if I know anyone who would want to do this. Who could I tag? Granted, anyone I did tag wouldn't have to feel obligated to do it........ okay.... you know what? Blogger Reflection Award

The reason for the title is because this award should make you reflect on five bloggers who have been an encouragement, a source of love, impacted you in some way, and have been a Godly example to you. Five Bloggers who when you reflect on them you get a sense of pride and joy... of knowing them and being blessed by them.






Of course, this isn't as easy as one might think. Some of the people I would choose have been chosen before and it's always nice to spread these things out a bit. :) Jen, Kim, Baxter and Carla have been done already so..... here are my days' choices.

1. My hubbie Jim, what can I say, he makes me think.... sometimes even when I don't want to. :) His blog is: Kerussomen Christon Estauromenon (try saying that five times fast!) . I do have to admit, sometimes he just makes me laugh to. Good posts, listen to his preaching sometime, he does a good job of expounding God's word.

2. This man, Even so, over at Voice of Vision, I have learned from. Some of his posts of answered long held thoughts and made me reconsider. I see God in a lot of what he writes. His responses to others seem well-considered as well.

3. Scott over at Random Responses is also one I learn from. Some of his posts make me think, others well... they don't, but that's okay. He's a good preacher, you should give his sermons a listen to. He is an encouraging blogger.

4. Holly at Seeking Faithfulness. Oh...meeting her is something I would love to do some day. Share a bag of Doritos (even though it's not good for me) and just sit and chat about kids, God and what we think about it all. Would be fun.

5. Paul over at Kerux Noemata recently did a series on things he likes about his church. Made me think, just as he often does. Really appreciate his writings, learn from him, sometimes laugh, but all round a good reflective blogger.

Seven Random Things

I was tagged by Kim at Upward Call so...here goes. :)

Here's how it goes:
Each player starts with 7 random facts/habits about themselves. People who are tagged need to write on their own blog about their seven things, as well as these rules. You need to choose 7 people to get tagged and list their names. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them that they have been tagged and to read your blog!

1. I come from a family of six children. Three boys, three girls. I was sandwiched in the middle. One of the things I learned growing up was the family was important. Got to know cousins, aunts, uncles and so forth. Lots of family connections since my dad was one of 8 children most of whom lived close enough to visit. Mom's family would visit from The Netherlands frequently as well.

2. I like critters. We currently have as pets, 2 dogs, 1 cat, 5 mice (okay 5 fancy mice, 3 field mice), 3 guinea pigs, and several tanks of fish. If the place was big enough I'd have a whole menagerie...chickens, goats, sheep, rabbits... and so forth.

3. Grew up on a farm. If I had my druthers I'd still be on a farm, milking cows, showing them too! And have a petting zoo (hopefully open and licensed for public but have heard that outrageously expensive insurance wise). But I"m not there at this point in my life and have learned to be content with what I've been given.

4. I love getting stuff for free or very very cheap. I will rarely turn down something that is offered me...even if it's just for me to take and then pass along to someone else. :) I love going to auction sales, buying the stuff no one else wants and then selling it at a garage sale and making a profit. Too cool that! Had the joy today of finding a new home for my myrtle/vinca/periwinkle (whatever you want to call it - apparently there are discrepancies in the name-calling) to a young lady who has a postage size yard and wants to cover it in ground cover. :) YEAH! It's mostly gone!

5. I like reading, a lot. But for the first few weeks every spring I do remarkably little of it. I have to get my garden in, I have mow the lawn, I have to get out and enjoy the nice weather, I have to prune, plant, trim, move ........ You get the drift. By the time night falls I'm too exhausted to read and usually crash into bed. This year I have the added benefit of an active toddler manipulating my days too! Ah... for a chance to read.....

6. When I do read I usually have lots of books on the go. Usually one (or two) fantasy. One non-fiction (usually religious but not always). And one murder mystery. Oh..and usually the book club book too! If one book gets particularly fascinating I finish it as fast as I can. :) Otherwise I take my time and depends on the mood I am in.

7. ACK>>>> what can I do for seven? Okay.. random thought... I just built a mouse house! It seems fool proof at the moment (no mice have escaped) and boy proof (he hasn't the strength to lift concrete blocks yet). I get to listen to MOUSE MOUSE when I'm outside. When I'm in the house, the litter we have squeaks at me. I find it fun, neat, cute to listen too! :) And no, they are NOT staying in the house, they shall be leaving, but they don't even have their eyes open yet! Patience is a good thing here.....

FitzChizalry Farseer, from the Robin Hobb farseer trilogy. Infected with both farseer magic and beast magic...his life takes all kinds of twists and spins and he ends up having more heart than you would imagine.

Menolly from Anne MacCaffrey's books. What can I say? Strong women character with the ability to fly a dragon.

Oh..and can I mention a fourth? (now that I'm on a role) Kay Scarpetta from Patricia Cornwell medical examiner thrillers. Strong woman, solves mysteries, fun.

Hmmm....harder one this..
Who would I like to be?
Jaxom - yes, he's a guy, but he's this unsuspecting little guy, caught between two worlds who goes out of the way to break the rules in order to save another being. Oh, he's a character in Anne MacCaffrey's books.

Heidi - the whole world knows Heidi. Didn't she do a good job of caring for her friends and relations? :)

Timothy - (this one is for Justin). My boy loves this character by Rosemary Wells and he's a good one. Cares for his friends, can be mischievous, and is just a nice little coon. I could be him no probs! :)


3). Who scare you.

The unsleighe elves. no question on that. Loving to torture people just because it's fun. Fortunately written in a way I don't feel the pain that they inflict and their parts in books are usually small.

The bad guys in Steven Lawhead's first trilogy that I read. I have never re-read those books because I so disliked the bad guys. Don't know why I haven't tossed them out!

Kellerman wrote a book called Bad Love. The "bad guy" in that book was very bad. Pretended to be one thing, ended up being this nasty nasty fellow. Would NOT want to ever meet him. This book I even tossed after reading it (spent money on it to that's the shame). Just didn't want to risk reading of him again.

Hardback or trade paperback or mass market paperback?

I have to admit, I really don't care. As long as it's a good book, I'll read it. AND if I bought it, I'll keep it. If I've borrowed it and become completely hooked...then I'll buy it (preferrably on sale).

Online purchase or brick and mortar?

Brick and mortar. I want to see it, feel it, smell it... (you get the picture). I like having it right there. NOW.. I have purchased books through a book club...but then I have the option of returning it easily.

Barnes & Noble or Borders?

No clue. My hubbie buys most often through Amazon (I think).

Bookmark or dog-ear?

If I have a bookmark, I use it. If I don't well then... I do whatever I have to do to preserve my spot!

Mark or not mark?

Never. Sorry, was raised you don't write in books. Well, hold on, I do mark up text books. And if it's a book I've purchased for learning purposes, I'll use pencil on it. And then I have my "fun" bible which I can write in to my hearts content. All other bibles.. NO WAY!

Alphabetize by author or alphabetize by title or random?

Depends on who's library they are in. My hubbie's library is LCC'd with tags and everything! :) Guess who did that? My library is mostly alphabetical, but some subject gathered. Depends on the genre...fiction or non.

Keep, throw away, or sell?

Keep, keep, keep...until I have too many and then sell, sell, sell. I rarely give away UNLESS I know that God is saying "give this to thus and such". Then even if I like it tons, I still give it away.

Keep dustjacket or toss it?

Keep unless it becomes tattered.

Read with dustjacket or remove it?

With, makes a handy bookmark. :)

Short story or novel?

Anything! Well.. okay.. I have learned to be cautious with short-story sci-fi/fantasy. But mostly whatever works for me. :)

Collection (short stories by same author) or anthology (short stories by different authors)?

Whatever works just fine.

Lord of the Rings or Narnia

Have no opinion on that. Like them both.

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?

When tired, unless chapter break is like 2 more pages. Otherwise I just stop and pick up from where I left.

Buy or Borrow?

Borrow most fiction from library as it's cheaper to do so. Purchase stuff I want to learn from, cause then I skim read first, and then do a more "thinking" read.

Kim said: "I love cracking open a new, hard-bound book, but lately I have learned that I can have more books if I buy them used. More is better." All I can say is DITTO!

Buying choice: book reviews, recommendation or browse?

Depends on the genre. Non-fiction, mostly reviews of people I respect. Fiction...if it grabs my fancy and doesn't "feel odd" to the touch, then it's mine! :)

Tidy ending or cliffhanger?

Not sure. Tidy endings make things easy, but cliffhangers leave you wanting more... I like both. Depends though...I hate wanting more and then having to wait more than 2 years to get "the more".

Morning reading, afternoon reading or night time reading?

Any time, any where...except while driving a car! That's a no-no.

Standalone or series?

Doesn't matter.

Favorite series?

Good question... Steven Lawhead... still just love his Empryion Series. That was a cliff hanger I just could hardly wait for. Not well known, many aren't enthused, but I really liked it.

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard?

Probably don't have one like that. Most stuff that I've read lots of others have read.

Favorite books read last year?

I don't know. I've read too many. Hard to keep track.

I re-read the Anne McAffrey series for the umpteenth time.
I re-read Steven Lawhead's Empryion series again for the umpteenth time.

The Sentinel - twas okay, glad I didn't see it in the theatre

none...well okay...I do like my birthdate, and Christmas is fun, but really... one day is as good as the next....

Anger... um.... vent loudly where no-one is around... OR stomp around the house... then cry or crying works... :)

my flopsy doll. Still have her too!

hmmm....... spring perhaps the promise of gardening, crocuses peeking up through the snow, no.. fall is good leaves colours crispness, or perhaps winter is...skiing, reading, crunchy noises in the snow, ah.. no the summer... gardens to bring in, swimming, long hikes, camping.... what can I say... they all have their appeal

um .. well... um... both? :) but really, only if I know you, if I don't a nice distant handshake works wonders for me.

both...i can't choose, especially if they are frozen! Neither can my son by the way.

a house, provided by the church, like the yard...except it has too many bushes...hard to set up a proper agility course

Last week... stupid old dog had a stupid old accident on the floor and I was totally fed up and got mad at myself and mad at the dog and mad at my hubbie and ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!! a good cry cleared it all out of my system but drove the rest of the household nuts! :)

Okay... you asked...my "sewing pile", 2 sleeping bags, my box of presents, my box of sewing stuff, my treasures box, pair of slippers I think, two of the boys' cars so that he can go "CARCAR" the next time he climbs in there....reminds me...MOVE THE SEWING STUFF! :)

last night...gee... that was saturday right? Watched tv with hubbie, did the dishes, made supper for today (with hubbies help since tired boy distracted mommy so that she burned the veggies badly) He redid them what a doll! went to bed after brushing my teeth and slept until 300 a.m. when for some stupid reason I woke up and stayed that way...

hmm....afraid of... not sure... don't like spiders in the house, that's not a fear though... that's a genuine dislike. Fears....i don't know stop asking these types of questions!
