Impavid

Did you know that the word impavid means fearless?
I didn't know either...until I looked up a scrabble word that I played. Funny how sometimes you through letters together and go hmm... looks like a word, wonder if it is. And.. IT WAS!!!
rather cool that. :)

anyways... I'm not normally impavid, but sometimes I am. When it concerns my boy...by all means. :) When it comes to preserving the integrity of our household...indeed. But scary things on tv, spiders ON ME, intimidating people, sharing my faith with scoffers and other such things...nope, not impavid. With the last...should be cause it's not by my own strength, but none the less I am.

Update on Jim. He has up and down days. up days he tries to do stuff, down days he simply can't. Did the dishes for me last Saturday as J and I were away all day, it totally tuckered him out and there was only one sink full (not a big sink full either).

He coughed up some blood again the other day, that concerned me.
He went to church on Sunday and half way through the service he just wilted. You could just see it on him.

Sent our boy away to my parents for a couple of days (Saturday afternoon to Wednesday morning) to give everyone some quiet....we are a houseful of people who NEED quiet and alone time and this forced to be together all the time is not good for us. Jim normally runs a pretty busy life with lots of time away and he hasn't been able to get away (justifiably sick!) and I haven't been able to just be home by myself so stress factors were abundant. He's going over to the church this afternoon for a couple hours to work on a disfunctional computer, and I'm going to just putter (or possibly take a long bath which I very rarely do). Ah...I am SO looking forward to it. :)

Our boy didn't really want to go, but I know there that he is safe, that he will have fun, and he get some quiet time too. Here...he was just getting loud and angry, which wasn't working well for two parents who were feeling loud and angry inside of themselves too. My mom says he's doing better there which is good for a momma's heart to hear. Means I made a good decision. :)

Anyways, I didn't get a lot of sleep last night, but I'm feeling somewhat functional. Best get on with the day then eh? :)

Cheers!

This day went different than expected

So today went a bit differently than I would have anticipated.

I anticipated calling one of the elders in church to say that Jim wouldn't be preaching. Did that.

Expected to take care of bunnies. I did.

Did not expect to see Jim looking worse than he did when he had H1N1, but I did.

Did not expect to call gramma to say please come and care for your grandson, your son isn't well and needs to be cared for.

DID NOT expect to be taking hubby to the doctor and then to get a chest x-ray. But I did.

Did expect a diagnosis of pneumonia. Didn't expect the concern that something more might be going on with him. We'll wait and see.

Tomorrow he has another appointment with the family doctor. We'll see what she has to say.

Expected to play games with the boy child this afternoon. Did that. :) Jim dozed off and on. Narcotics can be very good things. :)

Did not expect to make snowflakes out of paper. Did that. Found instructions here. :)

The boy child and I had a lot of fun today. He didn't want to go to bed. :) BUT he did (complete with Milo).

it was a day of some worry, some okay...things will be fine, and some smiles and laughter with a lad. :)

My lad occasionally stumps me

He comes downstairs telling me...This one isn't a sticky one mom, it's a good solid one!

Me: What?

Oh ...Justin you have poop in your hand!
Let's go put that in the toilet

J: NO!!! It's for my poop collection!

Justin, you are NOT having a poop collection.

J: but how will I see it again?

Why do you want a poop collection?

J: the bunnies in bunny town have a poop collections!

NO, you CANNOT have a poop collection.

J: but I like having collections, pillow collections, poop collections, bottle cap collections... I like collections mommy.

That's good Justin. I know you like collections. Collections are fun. But you CANNOT have a poop collection. I will even let you have a spider collection...in jars...BUT NOT a poop collection.

J: but I can put the poop in jars mommy

Justin NO.. you can't have a poop collection. It's icky.

J: Why?

Because poop has all the bad stuff in that your body can't have in it. That's how we get rid of it. You can't have a poop collection because it might make you sick.

J: so where can I collect my poop?

In the toilet, goes to the sewer...

The conversation then degenerated into a discussion on sewers, sewage treatment, processing plants and such like.

A poop collection???
I know he's a boy...

but WHERE did this come from?????

ICK!!!!

Parenting Question - You Not Going to Leave Mom?

Okay...it's been almost two weeks.

Our buggy freaks when I'm not home when he wakes up. Okay....maybe freaks is the wrong word but he's not a happy camper if I'm not in the house when he wakes up.

He doesn't want to go to bed at night 'cause I might leave when he's sleeping.

When I get up in the morning he'll be up within the half hour wanting to walk the dog with me so I'm not leaving him when he's sleeping.

It's a bit of a struggle because I want to just go and walk the dog by myself. No child. Just me and my dog chillin' first thing in the morning. No pleas to go the park. No Why questions. Just me and my dog alone in the morning, getting ready for the day.

I've tried slipping out but that means leaving my night owl hubby to deal with child when he's ill-prepared to do so...he needs his morning sleep like I need my night sleep. Differing schedules don'tcha know.

I've given up my alone times in the morning...but I miss them terribly...AH!!!!!
Tell me this is just a stage and it'll pass. I can live with this for now then.....
OR give me some hints...how do I help this boy of mine to stop being so terribly worried about me leaving the house without him.

How do I deal with this?

How to see God in All?

So as you know, I've decided to study the Sunday's sermons passage before church. Wow...certainly helped me listen better since I knew the basic gist of what he was going to talk about. Even missing the first five minutes due to Justin having to get some crayons which were SUPPOSED to be in my church bag but somehow weren't I still followed the sermon fairly well.

ANYWAYS>>>>>
One of the things Jim mentioned was that we need to focus on God ALL the time. To look for him in things. To make it a point of doing so. It helps us to know God better and therefore to boast in him and our knowledge of him. (I am paraphrasing).

That got me thinking.
As some of you know, we plan to homeschool Justin. A part of Jim's sermon was that folks in school need to think about how God fits in with their schooling. When taking a college course...how do you see God in your art class?

I'm thinking it would behoove me to figure out how to get Justin NOW and throughout his schooling to think about how God figures into it all. I really want to help Justin develop a solidly Christian world-view, so that means helping him figure out how God fits into his world in every way that I can think of, help him shape his thinking.

So now I have to figure out, how can I do that?
It's more I think than using scripture in study - whether that be copywork, or memorization or whatever. Though that's part of it, because the more Justin knows the word of God, the more hopefully he'll learn of it and become drawn to God more as I pray that God will draw Justin to himself. (I probably said that poorly).

But how do I teach him to really think about how God fits in with it all? That's my query. I am NOT a hugely critical thinker. Jim is WAY more discerning about things than I am. I can get the thought that something isn't right, but Jim tends to pinpoint it really quickly. :) I'm quicker at saying where I see God in something, but I don't know..... I feel somewhat unprepared for this aspect of things and want to figure out how to feel more "prepared" to help my boy in this important aspect of knowing and loving God.

My man makes a little boy smile

see this toy?
When we bought yard-saleing on Saturday it was missing an important part.
We oft had cries of "it not working!" "help me!"

Then My Man... YES MY MAN all.....
made this:
Now we have a boy who does this, without any help what so ever. :)

He's happy. He's not crying for help (whining actually). Life is quieter and happier in our household. Isn't my man cool? :)

Inspiration

Jen inspired this in our boy with her post here.

As you can see Giant Cosmos and Tagu have to take their turns playing, just like Nora did.
Earlier Mommy had to help Tagu play on one piano while Justin played on the other. :)

Update on Family and Rewards of Faithfulness

I'm back! :)

Ah okay, I have time this morning to do my devotions. I've missed sitting here. Anyways, first an update for you all.

We've had a busy week with Jim gone. Monday we worked on the rose garden, moving the last rose that Jim wanted in the rose garden over. While I dug and moved plant and dirt Justin played in the leftover soil. THEN he stepped on a nail. Unhappy boy. VERY unhappy. Bad owie in his foot. Called the doc, his tetanus is up-to-date just watch for infection. Soak in salt water as often as you can. That kinda halted the rest of the days plans. He can't walk, he feels very badly for himself,so after he had a nap (we both napped for a while in the big chair) we went to the store to get supper. Hotdogs (Justin's choice) .. I just wanted this sad, sore little boy to eat and he wanted hotdogs so we got some. Ate like a little piggie he did. :)

Must say though, by the end of the day he figured out that he could get around by turning the garbage pail upside down and using that to support himself. I told him he was a big and smart boy to figure that one out. :) We also partially got the kitchen and living room cleaned.

Tuesday (yes, that was yesterday right?). Ah did we get alot done. Laundry, the lawn mowed front AND back! (took a while as the lawn mower is scary and J wanted me to hold him frequently) Rabbits moved around, the garage partially cleaned, finished the living room (only to have a crawler totally mess it up again!!!!) Why oh Why do they feel that compulsion??? We even had a lovely, lovely walk at the dam with Sassy. Justin wanted to call Gramma where he proceeded to tell her all about his owie foot and all he did that day.

Today is Wednesday, I hope to build a rabbit cage, and possibly move some firewood so I can have all the rabbits in one spot along the house --- I'll shove the bunnies under the hedge. :) Wouldn't that be nice???? What else? I have no clue...Oh...I want to get my sorting cupboards sliding door thingeys all sorted out. No... I can't think of the official names for them.

Chatted a bit with Jim, he's having a good time. Listened to some good speakers too.

Anyways, on to more important things now.

Last time we met for devotions we talked a bit about these verses in 2 Timothy 2 :
8Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel, 9 for which I am suffering, bound with chains as a criminal. But the word of God is not bound! 10Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 11The saying is trustworthy, for:

If we have died with him, we will also live with him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; 13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful—

for he cannot deny himself.

And like I do, I've continued thinking on them a bit. Especially those words in verse 11-13:
If we have died with him, we will also live with him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; 13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful—

for he cannot deny himself.

If we endure, look at the result.

  • die with him = live with him
  • endurance = reigning with him
  • deny him = be denied
  • be faithless = he remains faithful for he cannot deny himself
Interesting isn't it?
Our behaviour makes a difference in what happens.
We shouldn't be surprised that if we deny Christ that when it really matters he will in turn deny us. We should be alert though.... even if we are faithless, he remains faithful. Faith is IN Christ. See that? Even if we are faithless he remains faithful because he can't deny himself. So that implies that faith is in him. Not in the things of this world, or made up gods, faith is in him. He is that constant in our lives. Be faithful in Christ, reap the rewards of enduring and dying with him. Don't deny him or you'll ended up being denied. Not something I want, or I'm sure you either. Let's just be faithful.

Vacation Report - May 2008

Jim had a week off work.
It was filled with this that and the other thing. :)

Go here for stuff that Jim did. Van work, garden work and such like.

Go here for our trip to the zoo. Warning this is fairly picture laden.

We also spent the weekend attending as volunteers at the Regionals trials for the Agility Association of Canada. We had a lot of fun. Saw a lot of dogs run. Some really good, some well... some that needed to do some more work on handling skills and/or focus. As volunteers we were treated well, though I found not as many messages of appreciation thrown my way as last year, thought that a bit odd. But hey, I did my job as best I could and had fun doing it. I stewarded, Jim ring crewed on Saturday. Sunday morning we listened to a sermon on the radio, and both of us ring crewed for the duration of the day. Jim received a Starbucks card for his help, I picked up a shirt and some pretty candles for helping out. OH! and in the Saturday raffle I won a new chair! Cool eh? Justin and Sassy stayed at gramma's house.

This morning Jim left at 700 a.m. to go the banner of truth Trust conference that he attends annually. He took a fellow pastor from town down with him.

So that's it. Justin and I will hold down the fort here this week. Jim will hopefully recoup some energies and life continues under God's good graces.

Cheers all!

Justin's had a bad cold

In case people have wondered where I've been.

Justin's had a bad cold.
Bad enough that he's been sleeping with me so that I can care more easily for him.

Not much sleep.
Busy days reading books upon books upon books, interspersed with other stuff.

He's getting better, but life has been tough for a wee lad.

Laughter

My boy made me laugh.

After a busy three days of volunteering at the nationals for the AAC (boy I had fun). I saw some really, really good runs. I saw some.... okay...this run is not so .... well... not so good. :) I heard comments of... but "AH!!!! My dog is 9.5 years old and has never been a tunnel suck! Why is she a tunnel suck today?!!!!!" and "I'm really happy with how he ran that course" (handler talking about her dog) and "nice run". Comments of "thank you for volunteering" where much appreciated as well.

Anyways, I stopped in at my parents to pick up Justin. As we were getting ready to go home, I asked Justin if there was anything he wanted to bring with him.

He immediately responded with "Oma, Oma coming?"

Made all three of us adults just laugh.

You'd almost thing this boyo had a good time at his Papa's and Oma's house. :)

For a couple of cute videos of my boy child, go here.

First one shows him with run, run, prizes, get prizes.
the second one is him deliberately running over his beloved "tagu".

Toronto Sportsmen Show

We had fun. This is where we went.

We met a couple people from church while we were there, chatted just long enough to say hi.

Lots of good booths, lots of friendly people, many booth people were happy to rock the stroller for Justin while Jim and I filled out ballots.

Fascinating some of the pictures of fishing resorts. Also saw some of the biggest fish (sturgeons) and people catching them. Wow... big fish. Can't imagine bringing them in.

Seeing things with the eyes of a toddler. BO! he said very excited as he saw the taxidermy birds. MOO! to the bison, he changed that to COW when I told him it was a Cow (close enough I figured for a toddler).

And boy oh boy.... the fun of climbing on ATV's, boats, canoes and so on. The life for a wee boyo. Fun Fun!

AND they added elephant rides this year. What a way to fascinate a toddler AND to make mommy ever so glad that toddlers can wear harnesses that keep them out from underneath said elephant!

We had hoped that Justin would fall asleep early afternoon, but although he was very tired that didn't happen until later on. Made for lots of slow walking and quiet areas as we tried to help him sleep so he could cope with the rest of the day.

I enjoyed the Golden Whistle Retriever trials. Was unable to see them all due to a very busy boy running ALL over the place (even while wearing a harness) who suddenly decided he had had enough! (the trials were the last event of the day that we were staying for). So he had enough, I had enough and so we left. :) But we did see dogs hesitate at the water pond. One dog did everything it could NOT to get wet... rather funny that. I don't think the handler ever got it to go into the water. One older (looked female from the build) dog that did a wonderful job on a blind send. Straight through the water and back. Nice line just like you want to see. We also saw a fake duck take out a fake goose. That was funny. AND one fake duck tried hard to take out one of the black labs.....dodged quickly that dog did! :) Once again I really wished that they could set these trials up in a different location. Where they place it makes it really hard to see all that the dogs are doing.

Justin was TIRED! Long day for a 20 month old. He fell asleep on the way home, I took a wee bit of shut eye and Jim got us home safely. :)

Got home at 11 p.m. to a very poopy kitchen. OLD DOGS>>> ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jim cleaned (since I did a rather dirty boyo earlier) and I walked the dogs. They are NOT getting supper tonight. Riley so his body can recupe, and Sassy because well.....It's just a pain trying to convince her to eat if she can't bug Riley about eating his! Dumb dogs! :)

Songs I learned as a Child

I was reading from Luke 6 today and I came to these verses.
12In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God. 13And when day came, he called his disciples and chose from them twelve, whom he named apostles: 14Simon, whom he named Peter, and Andrew his brother, and James and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew, 15and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon who was called the Zealot, 16and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
They reminded me of a song I learned as a child, I think in Sunday School, but it could have been in VBS or Calvinettes. I found it over at the Cyber Hymnal.
There were twelve disciples Jesus called to help him:
Simon Peter, Andrew, James, his brother John,
Philip, Thomas, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus,
Thaddeus, Simon, Judas, and Bartholomew.
He has called us, too. He has called us, too.
We are His disciples, I am one and you!
He has called us, too. He has called us, too.
We are His disciples, I am one and you!
This Of course reminded me of songs I learned to learn the New Testament books.
I found it here. You can find the music for it there as well.
Books of the New Testament

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John,

Acts and the letter to the Romans,
First and Second Corinthians, Galatians and Ephesians,
Philippians, Colossians, First and Second Thessalonians,
First and Second Timothy, Titus and Philemon,
Hebrews, James, First and Second Peter,
First and Second and Third John, Jude and Revelation.
INCREDIBLY helpful to know a tune to learn where the books of the bible are. I also learned that there are some different songs and tunes to learning the Old Testament books. Here are a couple of places you can go to learn those. One and two.

I know I plan to use them to teach our boy the books of the bible. I'm sure they'll save him just as much time as they have saved me over the years. :)

Lessons from the Children's Page

The other day my boyo listened to me really well. I asked him to do something and he followed through.

I exclaimed to my hubbie...."oh, I just love it when he listens to me".
Followed by... "but I know, I shouldn't enjoy it so much."

He stopped my heart in it's tracks when he responded "why not? God loves it when we listen to him and obey him" (or something along those lines).

Hmm.... made me stop and think.
Funny how parenting can point out the heart of God to a person. :)

I take so much joy out of my boyo listening to me. Makes me think of just how much joy God must take in me listening and obeying him. A good thing to think on.
