The Old Is Obsolete

When I was reading in Hebrews 8 this morning I had a book I was reading floating through my memory.
Paul tells us in Hebrews that 13In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
The old is obsolete. It's time is over.

The book that I am reading is a work of fiction but it alludes to the time of Christ. When the power of the Pharisees over the people was great. It alludes to the stress that was placed on the people as they strove to obey God's laws and offer the proper sacrifices and so forth. It made me think how when something passes, or it's time to just go, how it can fight so hard to stay and be relevant.

BUT GOD.... he brought a new way. He knew the faults of the Old Covenant, he knew that he had something better in store for his people.
7For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second.
Christ is better. He is. He is better than following a bunch of laws, of being bound up in the "you shall nots". Christ is You Shall. Christ is You are Loved. Christ is Follow me. The laws now show us when we are not following him. Christ ministers to us.
6But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.
Christ's ministry to us is better because it reasoned on better promises. God promises that we will be his children. God promises that we can live forever with him.

We don't have to bound up in the have to's and should's. All we have to do is follow our oldest brother in the Lord. That's all we have to do. He is our high priest, our King and our Saviour.
