Perpetuating Falsehood

I really really wish when people sent on emails that they would check first to see if the things in them were accurate or not. I know that most of the time it is just ignorance, that people don't know that emails can and should be verified and there are places to do so.

This one by "julie andrews" was sent to me this morning.
To commemorate her 69th birthday on October 1,2006 actress/vocalist, Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was "My Favorite Things" from the legendary movie "Sound Of Music".
Here are the lyrics she used:

"Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting, Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings, Bundles of magazines tied up in string, These are a few of my favorite things.

Cadillacs and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses, Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses, Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings, These are a few of my favorite things.

When the pipes leak,
When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favorite things, and then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions, No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions, Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring, These are a few of my favorite things.

Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin', Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin', and we won't mention our short shrunken frames, When we remember our favorite things.

When the joints ache,
When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had, And then I don't feel so bad."
I checked it out here.
What they in essence said was that due to a badly botched surgery, Julie Andrews could not have sung this ditty.
What people were supposed to do with this tune was pretend they were Ms. Andrews singing this song to the tune of "My Favourite Things". People changed it somehow into Ms.Andrews actually singing it.
What they in essence said was, that sending this email was perpetuating falsehood.

Places to check out emails are sites such as Urban Legends and Truth or Fiction.

Why is this so important to me?

What does it say about us as Christian believers if we willing send forward items that are falsehoods.

Excuses of>>>
  • but what harm does it do anyways?
  • it might help someone
  • I don't have time to check it out
  • what does it really matter
Consider...it does matter.
Consider...how does it help someone to tell a lie about a need, the next time a real need comes along... who's going to believe it's real?
Consider...you had enough time to read it, you have a enough time to send it, doesn't take long to check emails out
Consider...It does matter. Do you want the name of Christ to be associated with falsehood?
