ALL Scripture

This verse from 2 Timothy 3 is one of my favourites
"16All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work."
Paul in this chapter has been talking about how in the last days, things will be hard. Some people will oppose Christians, people will want to live for themselves regardless of how it affects others, that some of these people will have the appearance of being "good folk" but they really won't be.

In contrast, Paul mentions the people under Timothy's care. They are not like this. In fact they are so different, they are people who listen and learn. They follow a greater aim in life. And he commends them for it, while reminding them to continue "in what you have learned and firmly believed". And then he ends this chapter with these two verses.

Do you notice....it ALL scripture is useful. Not just some. Not just select verses, but all. Even those endless passages in numbers which are just chronicles of life. Even Revelations which I find confounding.

All Scripture is
  • useful
  • God-breathed
  • profitable for teaching
  • profitable for reproof
  • profitable for correction
  • profitable for training in righteousness
Why?
For the sole reason that the person of God might be
  • competent
  • equipped for every good work
All Scripture.....
