God Doesn't Lie

Here are the opening words to Titus:
1Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth, which accords with godliness, 2 in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began 3and at the proper time manifested in his word through the preaching with which I have been entrusted by the command of God our Savior;

4To Titus, my true child in a common faith:

Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

In these words we find that Paul is again the author of a letter to another pastor. Titus is leading the Cretan churches.

So just who is Paul?
  • a servant of God
  • an apostle of Jesus Christ
  • a preacher of God's word
Why?
  • for the sake of the faith of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth
  • knowing the truth helps people be godly
And what do we learn of God?
  • God promised us eternal life before the world began
  • God never lies
  • God has good timing. :) .... at the proper time, he manifested his word through the preaching that he entrusted to Paul.
He wrote this book to help Titus. Titus is a true child of Paul's in common faith.

He extends a greeting: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

I remember when I was in catechism being asked if there was anything God could not do. And I stubbornly insisted that there was nothing that God could not do. Even when confronted with the verse that God cannot lie, I was stubborn and insisted that God could do anything that he wanted to. Boy was I stubborn back then! Still am, but at least now I can graciously admit when I am wrong.

Think about this... God cannot lie.
No white lies. No lies at all. None of this.....lest shade the truth a bit so that this person doesn't get hurt feelings, or get angry or whatever.
God does not lie.

Do you know how trustworthy that makes God? Wow...just so eminently trustworthy. I never have to wonder if something he tells me is accurate or not.
That means I can take his word to mean just what it says. The whole of scripture. God doesn't lie. He gave his words to his chosen authors and they wrote them down in their own style. God doesn't lie....the whole bible can be believed.

So when we read that Paul has been commanded to preach God's word we know that Paul' is starting from a place of truth. Makes sense that he gets angry at people who twist God's word or add things to God's word to promote their own agendas. We as believers should do the same.

When we are told we must learn God's word in order to become godly, we know that God's word is a reliable guide. God doesn't lie....we as believers aught not either!

When God says he promises us eternal life...we aught to believe him...he doesn't lie!

God doesn't lie. Just believe his word, and if he's your Lord and Saviour...do it. It will make you more godly and fit for his service.
