Seeking the Lord Continually

Hmmm.....I read these words today and had to ask myself, Annette...do you do this?
8 Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name;
make known his deeds among the peoples!
9Sing to him; sing praises to him;
tell of all his wondrous works!
10Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice!
11 Seek the LORD and his strength;
seek his presence continually!
12 Remember the wondrous works that he has done,
his miracles and the judgments he uttered,
13O offspring of Israel his servant,
sons of Jacob, his chosen ones!
This is a song that David had sung by Asaph and his brothers.

Do I seek the Lord continually?
Is he the first thing that I look for?

To my sorrow I have to admit, I often don't. I often see other stuff first.
NOW...if I've a mind to, I can see God in all sorts of ways. I can see him at work in how my hubbie preaches, I can see the changes that he has wrought in me over the years, and so forth.
I have learned the importance of coming to him first thing in the morning, even though sometimes I don't get here.
BUT do I seek him continually?
No
I should.
I need to.
If I don't, how will I continue to get to know him better? And in knowing him better be changed more and more into his likeness?
I need to cultivate an attitude of seeing God first. Of seeking him all the time as I go about my daily business.
Not entirely sure what that means, or how it looks, but it is an attitude I will build.
How about you?

You asked me offline what it is like, or how one goes about seeking the Lord continually. I believe there are some hints in the very passage you quote.

First, notice this is a psalm of thanksgiving. So it would seem that seeking the Lord continually would include thanking him for the good, and turning to him in trust through the bad (calling upon his name.)

Second, this thanksgiving manifests itself in making him and the marvelous thing he has done known among the nations. I would say that a New Testament application of this would be speaking to people and in particular unbelievers about how God has worked in the past and how he is working currently in your life.

Third, seeking God is glorying in his name or reputation. Being joyful in God being who he is, the just, holy, loving, merciful, patient, etc. God.

Fourth, it is remembering what he has done in his miracles and judgments in the past. For believers this side of the cross, that is primarily looking to Christ and his suffering, death, resurrection and ascension.

I could write more, but this hopefully will help.
