What is Faith?

Aren't these two verses neat?
1Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2For by it the people of old received their commendation.
Faith. One of those nebulous elements that people wonder...what is faith really?

Well, here it is all spelled out.

Faith is the assurance (A statement or indication that inspires confidence; a guarantee or pledge, Freedom from doubt; certainty) of things hoped (the general feeling that some desire will be fulfilled) for, the conviction (an unshakable belief in something without need for proof or evidence) of things not seen.

By faith all kinds of things happen. Read Hebrews 11 to learn more. :)

I'll give a list:
Faith teaches us how the world began (v3)
Faith helps us offer the right thing to God (v4)
Faith prevented a man from dying. He was taken straight to be with God.(v5)
Faith makes it possible for us to please God. (v6) For if we can't believe that God exists, we can't seek him. God rewards those who seek him.
Faith saved a remnant of God's people. (v7)
Faith caused a man to leave his home and travel a long way away. He went not knowing what would happen, and received an inheritance. Faith causes us to look to God for all the answers.
Faith causes things to happen that are not expected. Sarah, in her old age, got pregnant! A whole nation was born because of faith. (v.10)
Faith causes you to contemplate things unacceptable ONLY because you know that God will make it all right. (v.17)

Having faith...that unshakable conviction about who God is, that God is real, that he created all that is around us, that firmness of belief that Christ will come again. That is what we as Christians hold to.

So Stand Firm in Your Faith!
